Hey cozy friend!
I often talk about the ways that cozy living comes down to intention - putting in a little extra effort to create a magical and memorable experience. But I also think a cozy life means putting intention into paying attention. Cozy moments are just that - moments. So if we want to hold on to those cozy feelings, we must stop and notice them.
I love the concept of glimmers as the opposite of triggers. These are little experiences that light up our senses, boosting our mood, and helping us to feel safe. If you ask me, there must be magic in that.
So this week, in no particular order, I have for you a simple list of cozy glimmers from Spring & Summer:
buying a new set of aesthetic pens and being absolutely delighted with the way they write
baking a single, perfect chocolate chip cookie from the freezer that past me lovingly made
the anticipation of a new Taylor Swift album, picking it up from my local record store and listening to it for the first time on vinyl
coming outside in the morning to find a new flower has bloomed in my garden
reading a book you know will stick with you far beyond the last page - not wanting it to end, but also not being able to turn the pages fast enough
saying yes to a friend when I’m feeling low, getting out of the house, and finding healing through laughter and connection - and usually a fun beverage
sitting outside my neighborhood coffee shop under my favorite tree, feeling a cool breeze tug at my hair
taper candles that look like asparagus
looking out my back windows watching ducks swimming on the water
when the sun hits the disco ball hanging in my window and the room is filled with sparkles
walking in the woods while listening to a story about hobbits walking in the woods, feeling completely immersed in another world
when every item in my clothing rental fits perfectly and is even more beautiful in person
when I finish a diy and it looks exactly how I imagined it in my head
dipping my head under the water of a crystal clear, cool lake immediately after a hike
bringing home a new candle and lighting it immediately
finding a surprise package from a friend on my porch
looking up at wildflowers that have grown taller than me in the same spot I walked in the snow just months ago
the thrill of finding the vintage piece that’s been on your list after months of scouring antique malls and thrift shops
discovering a new (to me) podcast with tons of back catalog episodes, perfect for a hyperfixation binge
selecting the perfect gift for a person I love from a small business I love, spreading sparkles and joy from my own community
the seemingly endless possibilities of a slow morning with no plans
Will you tell me about your recent glimmers in the comments? I’d love to hear about them.
Finally, your cozy inspiration for the week:
If you come to stay overnight at our house, it’s pretty much guaranteed that before we all head off to bed, we’ll all find ourselves on the couch watching Taskmaster. We like to have people go in blind, just as we did when we discovered the show in our London hotel on our honeymoon. But if you like British comedy and laughing uproariously, this is for you — and there are 17 full seasons streaming on YouTube!

What a great sentiment— “I love the concept of glimmers as the opposite of triggers.” Love this!
Also, Taskmaster.
